NO MORE Crimes of Power and Control

September 20th and 21st, 2017
Location: Innovation Campus - 2021 Transformation Drive, Lincoln, NE 68508
Description: The NO MORE ~ Crimes of Power and Control Conference will feature the following plenary presenters:

1. Lavon Morris-Grant, Social Justice Expert/Advocate
Healing Through The Trauma: This presentation will engage the audience with a blend and mixture of my personal life, public policy, economic empowerment and cultural norms. Each section weaves into each other creating the story of my life and the lives of so many other women who have been victimized by their intimate partners, especially African American women.

2. Christina A. Sambor, FUSE Anti-trafficking Coalition in North Dakota
Building a Multi-Disciplinary Response to Human Trafficking: This session highlights how commercial sexual exploitation became a major public safety issue in North Dakota, and how a small group of non-profit and state agencies worked together to create a comprehensive statewide response in less than two years. Challenges and advantages of building a comprehensive response in a rural, Midwestern state will be discussed.

3. Nubia Pena, Juvenile Defense Attorney and Training Consultant
Understanding the School to Prison Pipeline: Across the country, school systems are shutting the doors of academic opportunity and funneling children into the juvenile and criminal justice systems by using overly harsh discipline practices to address student misbehavior. Community partners must be aware of current issues that increase a youth’s vulnerability to perpetration in order to create innovative and relevant ways of engaging with targeted youth. This presentation will provide an overview of the pipeline and the various intersections of vulnerability that increase a child’s risk of victimization.

4. Bryan Franke, Founder of 2C Solutions, LLC
Technology and Stalking: This non-technical presentation will discuss an overview of the many different methods in which offenders are using technology to stalk someone. Some case examples will be shared, along with options to prove the conduct/offenses.

The conference registration fee includes plenary materials, continental breakfast, lunch, and refreshments at breaks for both days of the event. Participants are also invited to gather for a networking opportunity and Annual Advocacy Awards Celebration on Wednesday, September 20th at 4:30, immediately following the conference. The Nebraska Coalition will also be hosting their Fabulous Forty anniversary celebration at this time.
